Orange Salted Caramel Margarita

The first thing I saw when I got home and walked into the kitchen yesterday evening, were two huge bags plopped on the kitchen counter. Upon closer inspection I identified them as 2 – 25 lbs bags of oranges. Yes, 50 pounds of oranges sitting on my kitchen counter! As soon as my husband saw the perplexed look on my face he said. “Look, one of my clients gave these to me as a gift.” That’s very generous, I said.

Knowing we would definitely be giving a few pounds of these away I wasn’t too worried about not being able to use them up quick enough. So, I began thinking of other applications for them besides Orange Juice and enjoying them in their raw state.

Since Friday happened to be only a day away, I decided to start off with a cocktail. And since it also happens to be one of my dearest blogger friend’s birthday I decided to dedicate this particular cocktail to him, although I know he prefers a stiff drink over a sweet/fruity/dessert type cocktail I think he’ll like it nonetheless. Especially since this crazy daydreamer is making it for him. Just call me the Indulgence Pusher… I’m cool with it.

Orange Salted Caramel Margarita

Recipe type: Cocktail
Serves: 2
Ingredients
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 3 ounces orange juice, preferably freshly squeezed
  • 2 ounces salted caramel sauce
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 1 ounce lime juice
Directions
  1. Rim margarita glasses by dipping them in some salted caramel sauce then into a 50-50 combo of margarita salt and granulated sugar.
  2. Combine above ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled half-way with ice, shake for 30-40 seconds. Pour into prepared glasses, or serve on the rocks.

This is brilliant. I love sprinkling salt on my oranges. I do it on my grapefruit too! Love!

Josie this one is dangerous because I could drink a few and then I’d be crazy drunk. Love oranges, especially this time of year. I wonder what else you can do. Orange ice cream (not sorbet) would be cool.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a tequila cocktail I didn’t like! And the same goes for a salted caramel so this is a winner.

pardon my lack of knowledge but i’ve never heard of salted caramel sauce. is this something that i can make but, funny enough, adding salt to caramel sauce???
