The challenge: Whip up a “Steamy Valentine’s Day” Inspired recipe.
I thought to myself, what could be “Steamier” than a Valentine’s Day dessert so hot it goes up in flames?
Well, of course there’s a lot more to the story than that. Let me back up little. It actually all started a few weeks ago when two lovely ladies, Paula of Bell’Alimento and Rachael of La Fuji Mama asked me if I would like to collaborate with them for a special Valentine’s Day Inspired post and ManPans “Show us Your Pans” contest.
If I chose to participate in said collaboration I would be rewarded with a ManPans pan of my choice provided by the generous folks at ManPans of course.

I actually didn’t need to add butter to my pan when making my crêpes , pretty sweet right?
Can you believe I set my brand new pan on fire? Hey, why not… I knew it could take it!

Flambéed Banana Crêpes Suzette

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Butter, for coating the pan (*optional if you will be making them in a Mans Pans pan)
Sift flour into a medium sized bowl whisk in granulated sugar.
In a separate bowl whisk together eggs, milk, water, melted butter and vanilla extract.
Pour wet ingredients into bowl with dry ingredients, whisk together until well blended. Place batter in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour. (Batter will keep in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours)
While batter is chilling you can begin making the flambeéd bananas.
Heat a medium non-stick pan. Add butter to coat pan, if needed. Pour 1/4 cup of batter into the center of the pan and swirl to spread evenly. Cook for 45-60 seconds and flip. Cook for another 20-30 seconds, remove from pan and serve with flambeéd bananas.
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
Pinch ground cinnamon
2 bananas, sliced diagonally and tossed with the juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 tablespoon 99 bananas liqueur
1/2 cup dark rum
1/2 cup water
vanilla ice cream (optional)
In a large saute pan, melt butter gently, add brown sugar and cinnamon stir to combine. Cook until mixture thickens. Add bananas and saute lightly.
Raise heat to high, take pan off burner. Add 99 bananas liqueur and rum. You can either tip the pan into the flame to allow the flame into the pan and set on fire, or use a multi-purpose/utility lighter to ignite the pan! Do this very carefully but have fun, it’s truly a show! If the flames get too high and you have a microwave over your range, remove the pan immediately and let the flames subside.
Once the alcohol has been burned off, add water as needed to thin out out sauce a little.
Place a warm crepe over a plate, spoon some sauce over the center of the crepe and spread with a spoon. Fold crepe in half twice then top with a few flambeed bananas, drizzle a little more sauce over the crepe.
They can also be served a la mode, and please excuse the badly shaped quenelle
