September 2010 – Daring Bakers’ Challenge

My attempt at a Halo Reach Decorated Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookie

This months Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mandy of “What the Fruitcake?!” Mandy challenged everyone to make Decorated Sugar Cookies based on recipes from Peggy Porschen and The Joy of Baking.

The inspiration for these cookies originated from a certain someone in my household who happens to love this game, and who kept dropping subtle hints (reminding me of it’s release date every chance he could, naming all his friends who have already bought, etc.) that he would love to have this game for his birthday which happens to be this Wednesday.

He was so excited when he saw me making these, he automatically asked if he could help decorate them! Once I was done outlining them, we both took off on a flooding mission… good times!

Pistachio Sandesh

First of all I would like to thank everyone who voted for me during the first Project Food Blog challenge which allowed me to move up to the next round!

In this next challenge we were asked to create a classic dish from another culture, something we weren’t familiar with, or something out of our comfort zone.

This was one tough challenge for me, I will admit. I had a difficult time trying to decide what to make, I did a lot of googling, daydreaming, and cookbook reading trying to come up with the perfect choice.

Zen Zabaglione Pie

We’ve all heard the old saying an “Apple a day keeps the doctor away”? I wonder if the saying remains true if said apple has been infused with sake?

Well, before we figure that out I wanted to invite you over to my friend Mac’s blog Dishin’ In The Kitchen to listen the podcast where I dish about my special day in the Spago Beverly Hills kitchen.

Mac’s excellent interviewing style and sweet voice made this interview a piece of cake ‘er… I mean pie. 😉

Oh, and while you are there don’t forget to pick up my Fuji Apple Sake Zabaglione recipe, you’ll need it for this yummy pie.
